Historic Victory for India in T20 World Cup
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 9: The Indian cricket team has etched its name in history by successfully defending their ICC T20 World Cup title, triumphing over New Zealand in the final held in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Shivam Dube, a standout player in the tournament, shared insights about his contributions.
Dube emphasized that his primary role has always been to hit significant sixes and expressed his confidence in delivering when called upon. He acknowledged the unwavering support from Indian fans, crediting them as the true heroes behind their success.
“My role has consistently been to hit big sixes since the tournament began. While other batsmen may take the spotlight at times, I trust myself to seize opportunities to score sixes. Although I haven’t bowled in this tournament, I’ve improved and plan to come back stronger next time. Celebrating this victory is essential; today is monumental, and the crowd was incredible. This win belongs to the supporters of Indian cricket, whose love and prayers have uplifted us during tough moments,” Dube remarked after the match.
Throughout the tournament, Dube accumulated 235 runs across nine innings, boasting an impressive average of 39.16 and a strike rate of 169.06. Additionally, he took five wickets, proving to be a crucial player for the defending champions.
In the final match against New Zealand, Dube showcased his prowess by scoring an unbeaten 26 runs off just 8 balls, including a remarkable 24 runs in the last over bowled by James Neesham, helping India reach a total of 255/5.
Tilak Varma, another key player, stated that the team was ready to adapt to any batting position. He highlighted the improvement in their fielding, referencing Axar Patel’s catches in the semifinals against England and his own contributions alongside Ishan Kishan in the final.
“We’ve trained extensively for over a year, preparing to bat in various positions as needed by the team. We’ve practiced and are mentally prepared for any role. Our fielding has also seen significant improvement; Axar’s catches in the semifinal were crucial, and while our fielding today wasn’t perfect, we still made some important catches. Ishan and I performed well in the field, and ultimately, we’re thrilled with our victory,” Varma commented.
Arshdeep Singh, a prominent fast bowler, shared that he is still absorbing the significance of their win. “I can’t fully express my emotions right now. It feels great to win, but in a few days, the reality will set in. Our team is filled with match-winners, and we believed from the start that we would perform well. Regardless of the outcome, our goal was to restrict the opposition to under 250 runs, allowing our batsmen to play freely,” Singh explained.
With outstanding performances from Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, along with a strong showing from top-order batsmen Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan, India secured a remarkable 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
