India Gears Up for 2027 ODI World Cup with Strategic Planning and Squad Development
BCCI Outlines Plans for 2027 ODI World Cup
In Guwahati, Assam, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that preparations for India's journey to the 2027 ODI World Cup are already underway. The board is focusing on consistent training, squad enhancement, and strategic planning through a busy ODI calendar.
The 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup is tentatively set to take place from October 4 to November 21 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
These dates were established during an ICC board meeting held in Ahmedabad in May, with final confirmation anticipated at the ICC Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh this July.
Additionally, the BCCI has revealed a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, which is scheduled to start on July 16.
Saikia stated, "BCCI is charting a course leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November, and we have ample matches lined up until then. We have announced the team for the three ODIs in England from July 14 to 19. The selectors, along with the support staff and head coach, are fully engaged in this process."
This edition of the ODI World Cup will be the first men's tournament hosted in Africa since 2003. South Africa has previously hosted the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2009 Champions Trophy, and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Recently, Zimbabwe and Namibia co-hosted the Under-19 Men’s World Cup.
The tournament will revert to a 14-team format, following two previous editions that featured only 10 teams. The teams will be split into two groups of seven, with the top three from each group moving on to the Super Six stage.
As Full Members, South Africa and Zimbabwe automatically qualify, while Namibia will need to navigate the qualification process.
