India's Disappointing Series Against Ireland

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian cricket team experienced an unexpected series loss to Ireland, marking a significant moment as Ireland secured their first-ever victory against India in the initial T20I match. The series concluded with a 2-0 defeat for India, who struggled to meet the targets set in both matches. After the second T20I, Iyer acknowledged the superior performance of the Irish team, stating, "It wasn't a great series for us, but credit goes to them for their exceptional play. They had a clear understanding of the pitch conditions, and their fielding was outstanding." He further praised the Irish bowlers for their execution, noting their experience and strategic approach.

This series marked Iyer's inaugural stint as captain, taking over from Suryakumar Yadav, who was dismissed from the captaincy despite leading India to a title victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Tilak Varma has been appointed as the new vice-captain. While Iyer has had considerable success in the IPL, his transition to international captaincy has been challenging. This defeat also represents the first T20I bilateral series loss for Gautam Gambhir in his role as head coach. Looking ahead, India will face England in a series of five T20Is and three ODIs.

Upcoming India Tour of England

The five T20I matches against England are scheduled for July 1, 4, 7, 9, and 11, taking place in Chester-le-Street, Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton, respectively. The three ODIs will follow on July 14, 16, and 19 in Birmingham, Cardiff, and Lord's. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah will return to ODI cricket for the first time since the 2023 World Cup final, although he will not participate in the T20I matches. He is expected to be back for the 2026 Asian Games.
