Potential Adjustments for the Final T20I

Despite the Indian team's unwavering support for their current lineup, the recent defeat in Auckland may prompt a reassessment of their strategy for the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand this Sunday.

With a commanding 3-1 series lead, the world champions are keen to avoid ending the series on a low note after a strong start.

In this light, the coaching staff might consider reintroducing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, which would likely mean sidelining Sanju Samson.

Although Samson has garnered backing from his teammates, his performance in the series has been lackluster, with scores of 67, 14, 18, and 4.

A short break could provide him with the opportunity to recharge and refocus.

Shreyas Iyer has also been underwhelming, especially after leading the team to victories against the West Indies and New Zealand in previous T20I series.

Following his maiden T20I century, Iyer's subsequent eight matches yielded scores of 40, 1, 16, 22, 42, 7, 5, and 22.

He will be eager to turn this trend around with a more impactful performance.

Iyer's struggles have been somewhat masked by the impressive late-order contributions from Naman Dhir and Nitish Kumar Reddy in recent games.

The bowling unit also faces challenges, despite restricting the Kiwis to under 200 runs in the second and third T20Is.

India has heavily depended on Arshdeep Singh and, to a lesser extent, Axar Patel for wickets and control, especially after Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return yielded disappointing results.

The veteran pacer has taken just one wicket in three matches, conceding 139 runs at an economy rate of 11.58.

Arshdeep stands out as the only Indian bowler with an economy rate below 10 in this series.

While both Nitish and Dhir have significantly bolstered India's late-order batting with their aggressive hitting, they have yet to establish themselves as dependable bowlers.

To incorporate either Kuldeep Yadav or Varun Chakravarthy, the team may need to bench Dhir, sacrificing some batting strength for a more reliable bowling option.

India's spin-bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule, has indicated that both Kuldeep and Chakravarthy are prepared to step in at any moment, although their opportunity may not arise in this series.

The team could also consider using Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma as backup bowlers, but this might be risky given the scoring trends observed.

In modern cricket, no match is treated as a mere formality, and New Zealand is no exception.

They aim to conclude the T20I series on a high note to build confidence heading into the upcoming five-match ODI series.

This one-day series holds greater significance as both teams will analyze their combinations in preparation for next year's ICC World Cup.

The home side will draw motivation from the performances of Glenn Phillips, who scored a century, and Michael Bracewell, who contributed a powerful fifty, as they approach this match.
