India Secures Series Victory Against Zimbabwe

In a stunning display, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma led India to a commanding 121-run win over Zimbabwe in the second women's ODI on Sunday. This victory gives India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, having previously triumphed by nine wickets in the first match.

India set a formidable target of 328 runs for 6, and the spinners, particularly left-arm orthodox bowler Vaishnavi Sharma, who took four wickets, restricted Zimbabwe to just 207 runs in 48.5 overs. Deepti, after scoring her century, contributed to the bowling effort with impressive figures of 3 for 32.

Harmanpreet showcased her batting prowess, scoring 126 runs off 121 balls, featuring 15 boundaries. This marked her eighth WODI century, following a match-winning 91 in a WT20I earlier.

Deepti supported her well, remaining unbeaten on 106 runs from 86 balls, also hitting 15 fours. The duo's partnership of 153 runs was instrumental in setting a commanding total.

This bilateral series is a first for both India and Zimbabwe, offering the visitors a valuable learning experience against a top-tier team.

Despite a rocky start with early wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet and Pratika Rawal (61 off 67) built a solid 124-run partnership. Harmanpreet's innings was marked by elegance, although she was fortunate to be dropped three times.

India's designated finisher, Richa Ghosh, struggled to maintain momentum, but Deepti's late flourish, capped by a four in the final over, secured her century.

Zimbabwe, needing to improve significantly after their batting struggles, found it challenging against India's bowling attack. Vaishnavi's tight lines and quick wickets left little room for the opposition.

Modester Mupachikwa (49) and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano (46) were the standout performers for Zimbabwe, but their contributions fell short of making a significant impact.
