India's Commanding Victory in the Asian Champions Trophy

In a stunning display, defending champions India overwhelmed South Korea with an 8-0 victory, concluding the round-robin phase of the Asian Champions Trophy with an impeccable record.

The last two group matches served as crucial preparations for the upcoming semi-finals.

Japan secured a narrow 2-1 win against Malaysia, allowing them to surpass Malaysia into second place. This result left South Korea unable to escape fourth place, as they needed a significant win over India, which they failed to achieve.

Consequently, India is set to face South Korea in the semi-finals, while Japan will take on Malaysia in Mohali on Wednesday.

During the final match in Jalandhar, the audience witnessed an electrifying performance as India aimed to assert their dominance. After a cautious start, they quickly increased their intensity, forcing Korea onto the defensive. Dilpreet Singh opened the scoring with a swift finish from the right side in the eighth minute.

Just three minutes later, Jugraj Singh extended the lead, and Captain Harmanpreet Singh made it 3-0 just before the first quarter ended.

India continued to control the second quarter but couldn't add to their score. With a comfortable three-goal lead, their intensity waned slightly. However, the half-time break revitalized them, and they returned with renewed vigor.

In a remarkable six-minute span, they netted three goals through Shilanand Lakra, Sukhjeet Singh, and Sanjay, leaving Korea stunned. Dilpreet scored his second with a deft deflection in the 40th minute, and young talent Angad Bir Singh capped off the rout with a brilliant solo goal in the final minute, stealing the ball in the opponent's half and finishing with a low tomahawk shot.

This emphatic victory marked a perfect conclusion to the round-robin stage for India, showcasing their dominance in continental hockey with a total of 34 goals across five matches.

Harmanpreet leads the tournament's scoring charts with nine goals, while both Dilpreet and Sukhjeet have contributed four goals each.

As the action transitions to Mohali for the knockout rounds, India, in such fine form, is poised as a strong contender to claim the trophy on Thursday.

China and Bangladesh have been eliminated from semi-final contention, finishing in fifth and sixth places, respectively.
