India's Remarkable Performance in Shot Put

Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], October 21: India achieved another remarkable podium sweep at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games on Wednesday, with Sachin Khilari, Mohd Yasser, and Praveen securing gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively, in the men's shot put F46 event.

Adding to the medal tally, Bhagyashri Jadhav earned a silver medal in the women's shot put F34 category.

Khilari, a seasoned Paralympic athlete, set a new Games record with a final throw of 15.87 meters to clinch gold. Yasser followed with a season-best throw of 15.06 meters for silver, while Praveen rounded out the Indian sweep with a throw of 14.94 meters.

This achievement marked India's second clean sweep at the ongoing Games, previously showcased in the men's discus throw F43/F44/F62/F64 final on Day 2.

In that event, Devender Kumar took home the gold with 781 Raza points, while Rakesh secured silver with 771 points, and Pardeep Kumar earned bronze with 669 points. Devender's best throw of 49.71 meters during his second attempt was crucial, while Pardeep recorded the longest throw of the competition at 51.15 meters.

The Raza points system, which adjusts performances across various disability classifications, means that the longest throw does not always dictate the final results.

Earlier, Bhagyashri Jadhav achieved silver in the women's shot put F34 with a personal best of 8.19 meters on her third attempt, having also thrown 8.14 meters in her second attempt.

China's Lijuan Zou won gold with a Games-record throw of 9.07 meters, leaving Jadhav with her second consecutive silver medal in this event at the Asian Para Games.

As of now, India stands fifth in the medal tally with a total of 45 medals, which includes 12 gold, 15 silver, and 18 bronze.
