In a stunning performance, the Indian men's hockey team overwhelmed their long-time rivals, Pakistan, with a score of 7-1 during the FIH Pro League's London leg.
Despite an early setback where they conceded a goal, India quickly turned the tide with impressive goals from Sukhjeet Singh (20th), Harmanpreet Singh (26th), Hardik Singh (34th), Jugraj Singh (35th), Abhishek (41st), Raj Kumar Pal (44th), and Dilpreet Singh (54th). This decisive victory took place at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on Friday.
Hardik Singh was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The match kicked off with high energy, as India earned a penalty corner within the first 90 seconds, thanks to a swift run by Mandeep Singh. Pakistan, however, countered effectively and secured a penalty corner in the 13th minute.
After India lost a video referral, Pakistan's captain, Abu Bakar Mahmood, successfully converted the drag-flick, putting his team ahead 1-0.
India regained control in the second quarter, showcasing quick ball movement and precise long passes that challenged the Pakistani defense.
In the 18th minute, Pakistan faced a setback when Ahmad Nadeem was injured by a deflected pass from teammate Ali Ghazanfar and had to exit the match.
Seizing the opportunity, India equalized when Sukhjeet deftly redirected a powerful drag-flick from Harmanpreet in the 20th minute.
Just six minutes later, Harmanpreet scored again with another drag-flick from a penalty corner, giving India a 2-1 lead at halftime.
After the break, India continued to assert their dominance. A series of penalty corners in the 34th minute led to a penalty stroke, which Hardik converted calmly, extending the lead to 3-1.
Although Pakistan earned two penalty corners shortly after, the Indian defense held strong.
India quickly countered after defending against Pakistan's second penalty corner, with Dilpreet assisting Sukhjeet, who set up Jugraj for a clinical finish in the 35th minute, making it 4-1.
The relentless Indian offense continued, with Sukhjeet assisting Abhishek, who scored on the run in the 41st minute.
Towards the end of the third quarter, India won four consecutive penalty corners, with Raj Kumar Pal reacting swiftly to tap in a rebound from Harmanpreet's drag-flick, increasing the lead to 6-1.
In the final quarter, India maintained their defensive discipline while pressing forward, with Dilpreet sealing the victory with the seventh goal in the 54th minute.
Although Pakistan earned two late penalty corners, veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh made crucial blocks to secure India's impressive 7-1 win.
