India Dominates ODI and T20I Rankings, Australia Leads in Tests

India Maintains Top Rankings in White-Ball Formats

India has successfully retained its leading position in both the ODI and T20I formats, showcasing its prowess in white-ball cricket. However, the team has slipped to the fourth position in the Test rankings, where Australia continues to hold the top spot, according to the latest ICC annual men's rankings released on Monday.

The updated rankings consider all matches played since May 2024 at full weight and those from the preceding two years at half weight.

In the ODI rankings, India, the finalists of the 2023 World Cup, has solidified its top position following a successful ICC Champions Trophy campaign, increasing its rating points from 122 to 124.

New Zealand, the runners-up at the Champions Trophy, has moved up to second place, surpassing their rivals Australia, who now sit in third.

Sri Lanka has also made significant strides, climbing to fourth place after a strong home performance, including ODI series victories against both India and Australia. They gained five rating points, overtaking Pakistan, which is now fifth after a one-point increase, and South Africa, which dropped to sixth after losing four points.

Afghanistan has ascended to seventh place with a four-point gain, while England, former world champions, have fallen to eighth after a four-point decrease.

The West Indies have improved to ninth place, gaining five points, while Bangladesh has dropped to tenth with a four-point loss.

India Leads in T20I Rankings

In the T20I format, India remains at the top, although their lead over second-placed Australia has narrowed from ten to nine points.

This year's annual update marks a milestone, featuring 100 teams in the global T20I rankings, including all teams that have played at least eight T20Is in the last three years.

The original T20I rankings were introduced in 2019 and included 80 teams.

England, the champions of the 2022 edition, currently hold the third position, followed by New Zealand, West Indies, and South Africa in fourth, fifth, and sixth places, respectively.

Sri Lanka continues to rise in the T20I rankings, now positioned seventh after surpassing Pakistan, which is eighth. Bangladesh and Afghanistan follow in ninth and tenth places, respectively.

Ireland has also improved, swapping places with Zimbabwe to claim the 11th rank.

Australia Dominates Test Rankings

Australia, the reigning World Test Championship holders, has maintained its top position in the Test rankings, although its lead has decreased from 15 to 13 points following the annual update.

Pat Cummins' team boasts a rating of 126, remaining comfortably ahead of its competitors.

England, led by Ben Stokes, has made a significant leap to second place, overtaking both South Africa and India.

England's rise is attributed to winning three out of four Test series in the past year, boosting their rating points to 113. South Africa (111) and India (105) have each dropped one position to third and fourth, respectively.

The remainder of the top ten remains unchanged, with New Zealand in fifth, followed by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.

Currently, only ten teams are ranked in the Test table. Ireland must play one more Test in the next year to qualify for a ranking, while Afghanistan needs to play three more matches to join the list.
