India Dominates Netherlands in ICC Women's T20 World Cup with Stellar Performances
India's Impressive Victory Over Netherlands
In a remarkable display of skill, India triumphed over the Netherlands by 95 runs during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match held in Leeds on Wednesday. The standout performances came from Shafali Verma, who shone as an all-rounder, and Smriti Mandhana, who delivered another exceptional innings. Shree Charani also made her mark with a four-wicket haul.
India set a formidable target of 209/5, marking their highest score in T20 World Cup history, thanks to contributions from Smriti (74 runs) and Shafali (55 runs). The Dutch team struggled in their chase, collapsing from a promising 96/4 to being all out for 114. With this victory, India leads Group A with four points.
Choosing to bowl first, the Netherlands quickly regretted their decision as the Indian opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma unleashed a barrage of boundaries, racing to 48 runs without loss in just five overs. The powerplay concluded with India at 59/0, setting a record for their best start in T20 World Cup history.
By the end of the tenth over, India had reached 96 runs without losing a wicket, with Shafali achieving her first T20 World Cup fifty in just 34 balls. The partnership between Shafali and Smriti was crucial, as they built a 115-run stand, marking their fifth century partnership in women’s T20 internationals.
Smriti continued her excellent form, scoring back-to-back fifties and hitting four consecutive boundaries in one over. She was eventually dismissed for 74 runs off 47 balls, while Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur contributed valuable runs to push India to their record total.
During the Netherlands' innings, Heather Siegers and Phebe Molkenboer provided a decent start, but the Indian bowlers, led by Charani (4/19) and Shafali (3/20), dismantled the Dutch batting lineup, leading to a swift collapse. The Netherlands ended their innings at 114 runs, with Nandni Sharma also contributing with two wickets.
