New Delhi [India], April 10: Team India showcased a remarkable performance, bouncing back with a decisive 3-0 victory over Mongolia in the Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) 2026 held at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Authority Complex on Friday.
As hosts of the Group I – Asia/Oceania matches, India has recorded two wins and two losses thus far, with their final match against Korea Republic scheduled for Saturday.
In a strategic move, Zeel Desai stepped in for Vaishnavi Adkar in the first singles match. On matchday four, both Desai and Sahaja Yamalapalli delivered flawless performances, winning their matches with identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. Adkar teamed up with Rutuja Bhosale in the doubles, where they triumphed 6-1, 6-0, completing a clean sweep.
In their inaugural encounter, Desai set a commanding tone by defeating Anu-Vjin Gantor 6-0, 6-0 in just 37 minutes, dominating from the baseline. Yamalapalli followed suit with a similarly dominant performance, overpowering Jargal Altansarnai 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles match saw Adkar and Bhosale maintain India's dominance, winning 6-1, 6-0 against Khongorzul Aldarkhishig and Jargal Altansarnai. The Indian duo worked seamlessly together, taking control early and not allowing their opponents to find their rhythm, culminating in a near-perfect outing for the home team.
In other matches, Korea Republic faced Indonesia in a highly anticipated showdown, with both teams evenly matched at 5-5 in their head-to-head record. Korea took an early advantage as Dayeon Back continued her unbeaten streak, narrowly defeating Priska Madelyn Nugroho 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, with more matches still to come.
Meanwhile, Thailand was on track for a win against New Zealand, leading 1-0 despite a 3-5 deficit in their historical matchups. Anchisa Chanta secured the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Aishi Das. In the second singles match, Patcharin Cheapchandej and Valentina Ivanov were engaged in a tight contest, with the Thai player ahead 6-2, 3-6, 4-0 after breaking serve twice.
All six teams are competing in a round-robin format until Saturday, with the top two teams advancing to the next round.
