India's Impressive Start at the Asian Champions Trophy

Mandeep Singh showcased his skills by netting a remarkable hat-trick as India, the five-time champions, overwhelmed Bangladesh with a staggering 13-0 scoreline in their opening match of the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament on Tuesday.

Mandeep found the back of the net in the 3rd, 10th, and 54th minutes, while captain Harmanpreet Singh (2nd, 44th), Dilpreet Singh (43rd, 44th), and vice-captain Hardik Singh (60th, 60th) each contributed two goals.

Other contributors to India's goal tally included Shilanand Lakra (15th), Abhishek (18th), Nilakanta Sharma (26th), and Jugraj Singh (46th), making it a one-sided affair at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium.

From the very beginning, India dominated the match, keeping the action primarily in the Bangladesh half.

India earned their first penalty corner early on, and Harmanpreet opened the scoring with a powerful flick just two minutes into the game.

A minute later, Harmanpreet's precise pass from midfield set up Mandeep for a fierce shot that doubled India's advantage.

In the 10th minute, Harmanpreet's long scoop found Abhishek, who assisted Mandeep in scoring again.

As the first quarter neared its end, Shilanand extended the lead to 4-0 after a clever one-two with Sukhjeet Singh.

A humorous moment occurred when a stray dog unexpectedly entered the field, causing a brief delay before the second quarter.

India continued to score freely, with Abhishek adding to the tally in the 18th minute thanks to a one-touch pass from Mandeep.

Despite earning a second penalty corner in the 20th minute, India failed to convert as the ball-stopper mishandled the push.

Bangladesh's goalkeeper Ashraful Shad made notable saves against Nilakanta Sharma and Mandeep during the second quarter.

Nilakanta finally scored with a well-executed tomahawk shot in the 26th minute, assisted by Sukhjeet and Abhishek, leading to a comfortable 6-0 halftime score.

India's third penalty corner in the 38th minute was deflected wide by a Bangladesh defender.

The third quarter saw Dilpreet score twice within a minute, first capitalizing on a rebound and then with a stunning tomahawk shot.

Harmanpreet quickly followed suit, scoring his second goal from India's fifth penalty corner.

Bangladesh's struggles continued as Jugraj scored from India's seventh penalty corner at the start of the final quarter.

Mandeep completed his hat-trick with a diving deflection from Aditya Lalage's pass.

In the final minute, India secured consecutive penalty corners, with Hardik scoring from the second one off a rebound, and then adding another field goal shortly after.

India's next match is against China on Thursday, while Bangladesh will face Malaysia.
