India Celebrates T20 World Cup Victory with Prayers at Siddhivinayak Temple
Celebrating Victory at Siddhivinayak Temple
On Saturday, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Surya Kumar Yadav visited the Shree Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, bringing along the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy to offer their prayers.
The Indian cricket team triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs on Sunday, successfully defending their T20 World Cup title. This remarkable win marked India as the first nation to secure the T20 World Cup on home ground, achieve back-to-back titles after their 2024 victory, and lift the trophy for the third time (2007, 2024, and 2026).
Acharya Pawan Tripathi, Treasurer of the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, shared insights about Gambhir and Yadav's visit, stating, “After clinching the T20 World Cup, Indian captain Surya Kumar Yadav, coach Gautam Gambhir, and ICC Chairman Jay Shah came here to express their gratitude. Prior to the semi-final, the entire team visited to seek blessings from Bappa. Our trustees, priests, and devotees all share a sense of patriotism.”
During the tournament, Suryakumar Yadav emerged as India’s third-highest run-scorer, accumulating 242 runs across nine matches with an average of 30.25, including one half-century.
India finished at the top of Group A without losing a match, although they faced a setback in the Super Eight stage, where they lost to South Africa by 76 runs. However, the team rebounded impressively, defeating West Indies in a crucial quarter-final, overcoming England in the semi-final, and ultimately securing victory against New Zealand in the final.
As champions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, India will receive a prize of USD 2,639,423, while New Zealand, the runners-up, will take home USD 1,422,692. South Africa will be awarded USD 1,005,577, and England will receive USD 974,423.
On March 10, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash reward of Rs 131 crores for Team India in recognition of their successful campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
