In a remarkable display of talent, India celebrated two significant world records in para athletics and shooting, as Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya extended his congratulations to athletes Sumit Antil and Esha Singh for their exceptional performances on the international stage.


Sumit Antil made headlines once again by breaking his own world record with an impressive throw of 74.82 meters at the Indian Open Para Athletics Championship 2026. Mandaviya praised this achievement as a "historic feat," acknowledging Antil's ongoing success in global competitions.

In another remarkable accomplishment, shooter Esha Singh secured the gold medal in the Women’s 25m Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup held in Munich, achieving a new world record with an outstanding score of 43.


Mandaviya celebrated this achievement, calling it a "day of world records for Bharat," highlighting India's rising prominence in various sports disciplines.

Sumit Antil, an Olympic and World Championship gold medalist in para javelin, once again broke his own world record in the men’s javelin F64 category during the Indian Open Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru.


According to a statement from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Media, "Sumit Antil has once again rewritten history by breaking his own World Record in the Men’s Javelin F64 category with a massive throw of 74.82m at the Indian Open."


This achievement surpassed his previous record of 73.29m, which he set at the 2022 Asian Para Games. Antil is recognized as one of India's top para-athletes, having won consecutive Paralympic gold medals in 2020 and 2024, along with three gold medals at the World Para Athletics Championships.


During the World Para Athletics Championship in Delhi last year, Antil delivered a memorable performance, achieving a meet record of 71.37m on his fifth attempt, securing his third gold medal at the event. His three gold medals at the World Para Athletics Championships are the highest by any Indian athlete.
