India Celebrates Historic One-Two Finish in Men's T47 100m at Commonwealth Games 2026

In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, India achieved a stunning one-two finish in the men's T47 100m event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow on July 30. Dilip Mahadu Gavit clinched the gold medal, while Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth secured silver, marking a significant achievement for Indian athletics.

Gavit showcased an explosive performance, particularly in the final 30 meters, finishing with a record time of 10.71 seconds, thus setting a new Commonwealth Games benchmark. Basil also delivered an impressive run, clocking 10.83 seconds, narrowly defeating England's Kevin Santos, who took home the bronze with a time of 10.85 seconds, as reported by ESPN.

This outstanding performance not only highlighted India's strength in para athletics but also contributed to the nation's growing medal tally at the Games.

These medals were part of a successful day for India, which also saw long jumper Murali Sreeshankar earn a silver medal earlier in the men's long jump event. Sreeshankar, who previously won silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, achieved a best jump of 8.09m, finishing just behind Jamaica's Tajay Gayle, who won gold with a leap of 8.15m. Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie secured bronze with a jump of 8.08m, while Indian athlete Lokesh made a commendable debut, finishing fifth with a jump of 7.97m.

With Gavit's gold, Basil's silver, and Sreeshankar's silver, India added three more medals on Day 7, bringing the total medal count to 15, which includes three gold, nine silver, and three bronze medals.

India's gold medals have been secured by Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting, Sharmila Dhankar in the women's F57 shot put, and now Gavit in the men's T47 100m.
