BCCI Secretary Optimistic About India's Chances

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 6: Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed strong optimism regarding the Indian cricket team's prospects of winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He believes the team is well-positioned to replicate their historic victory in Barbados in 2024.

“We are determined to bring the trophy back home. It’s essential for us to win this title and mirror our performance from Barbados in Ahmedabad. I am confident we will secure an easy victory,” Saikia stated.

India advanced to the finals following a thrilling semi-final match against England, where they displayed an impressive batting performance and maintained composure in the bowling department during crucial moments.

Ajinkya Naik, President of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), also shared his joy at the defending champions reaching the T20 World Cup finals for the second consecutive time.

“This is a joyous occasion for everyone involved. India triumphed in the semi-finals held in Mumbai, and we are all thrilled. The fans of Mumbai cricket are celebrating our victory against England at Wankhede Stadium,” Naik remarked.

Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 253/7 in 20 overs, thanks to a spectacular innings from Sanju Samson, who scored 89 runs off 42 balls, supported by Shivam Dube (43 runs in 25 balls), Ishan Kishan (39 runs in 18 balls), Hardik Pandya (27 runs in 12 balls), and Tilak Varma (21 runs in 7 balls).

Despite having England in a tough spot at 95/4, India faced a strong counter from Jacob Bethell, who scored 105 runs off 48 balls, and Will Jacks, who contributed 35 runs off 20 balls, forming a crucial 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Bethell continued to push forward even after Jacks was dismissed, and a quick-fire 19 runs from Jofra Archer brought England close, but they ultimately fell short, finishing at 246/7.

The final match is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad, where India aims to extend their remarkable journey and clinch another significant ICC title by overcoming New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8.
