He commended Sanju Samson for his impressive fifty and acknowledged Jasprit Bumrah's pivotal role in disrupting England's momentum during the second innings, while also highlighting the team's exceptional fielding.
Defending champions India, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, triumphed over England by a narrow margin of seven runs in a thrilling match, securing their spot in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand.
Sanju Samson's explosive innings of 89 runs off 42 balls set the stage for India's formidable first innings total of 253-7. Despite a century from Jacob Bethell, England remained in contention for most of the game.
As England seemed poised for victory, the match shifted dramatically when Jasprit Bumrah delivered an outstanding 18th over, allowing only six runs while England required 45 runs from the last three overs. Following Bumrah's performance, Hardik Pandya maintained the pressure with a superb penultimate over, conceding just nine runs and taking the wicket of Sam Curran.
In an interview, Rajkumar Sharma expressed his admiration for India's performance, emphasizing the significance of their high score and Sanju Samson's stellar innings. He noted that Bumrah's economical over was crucial in halting England's momentum, alongside India's excellent fielding.
"They played exceptionally well and achieved a significant score, with Sanju Samson delivering a fantastic performance. Bumrah's last over, where he only gave away six runs, was a game-changer as England was gaining momentum. His brilliant bowling helped break that rhythm, complemented by India's outstanding fielding," he remarked.
Batting first, India showcased a powerful performance with Sanju Samson scoring 89* off 42 balls, supported by Shivam Dube (43 off 25), Ishan Kishan (39 off 18), Hardik Pandya (27 off 12), and Tilak Varma (21 off 7), leading to a total of 253/7 in 20 overs.
Even after reducing England to 95/4, India faced a challenge as Jacob Bethell (105 off 48) and Will Jacks (35 off 20) formed a counter-attacking partnership worth 77 runs for the fifth wicket.
Bethell continued to push forward, and a quick 19 runs off four balls from Jofra Archer brought England close, but they ultimately fell short, finishing at 246/7.
For India, standout bowlers included Jasprit Bumrah (1/33 in 4 overs), Axar Patel (1/35 in 3 overs), and Hardik Pandya (2/38 in 4 overs).
