India A Triumphs in Tri-Nation Series
Dambulla [Sri Lanka], June 17: India A clinched a decisive victory against Afghanistan A by 101 runs, thanks to impressive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya, Tilak Varma, and Kumar Kushagra, along with a stellar all-round performance by Nishant Sindhu. This win guarantees India A a place in the finals of the tri-nation series.
Entering the match with only one win and two losses, India A faced significant pressure. However, their recent performance has secured them a spot in the finals, with the outcome of the Sri Lanka A vs Afghanistan A match determining the other finalist on Friday.
Afghanistan A won the toss and chose to bowl first. Priyansh Arya began strongly alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 38 runs off 28 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. Unfortunately, Sooryavanshi couldn't convert his start into a bigger score, leading to the end of their 75-run partnership.
After Arya's contribution of 58 runs from 32 balls, which included nine fours and a six, and Ruturaj Gaikwad's 30 runs off 31 balls, Tilak Varma and Kumar Kushagra built a solid 104-run partnership, scoring 59 and 58 runs respectively.
Lower down the order, Nishant Sindhu added an unbeaten 21 runs off 26 balls, while Vipraj Nigam contributed 30 runs off 20 balls, helping India A reach a total of 319 for 8.
For Afghanistan A, Faridoon Dawoodzai, Abdullah Ahmadzai, and Farmanullah Safi each took two wickets.
In their chase, Afghanistan A struggled initially, finding themselves at 70 for 3. However, a resilient 87-run partnership between Faisal Shinozada, who scored 46 runs off 56 balls, and Bahir Shah, who made 57 runs off 52 balls, gave them hope.
Ultimately, Afghanistan A was bowled out for 218 runs in 36.5 overs, with Sindhu claiming 4 wickets for 31 runs and Yash Thakur taking 2 for 48. Anshul Kamboj, Suryansh Shedge, Vipraj, and Anukul Roy also contributed with a wicket each, while Sindhu was named 'Player of the Match.'
