India A Sets a Strong Foundation

In Lincoln, New Zealand, on November 8, Prasidh Krishna made a significant impact by taking both opening wickets for New Zealand A after India A declared their first innings at an impressive 464 for five on Day 2 of the third four-day match. This performance bolstered India's confidence ahead of the forthcoming Test series against New Zealand.

Key contributions came from Dhruv Jurel, Tilak Varma, and Washington Sundar, who all scored half-centuries, while B Sai Sudharsan and Jurel narrowly missed reaching the century mark.

Starting the day at 77, Sai Sudharsan added just 11 runs before being bowled by Zak Gibson for a total of 88 runs off 255 balls. Jurel, on the other hand, continued his solid form, reaching his half-century with a boundary before being dismissed for 54 after edging a delivery to deep backward square.

At lunch, India A was positioned at 331 for four, with Tilak and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. However, Gibson struck again post-lunch, sending Jadeja back to the pavilion after he edged a delivery to slip.

Tilak and Washington then formed a resilient partnership, frustrating the New Zealand A bowlers, who were missing their key pacers Jarrod McKay and Danru Ferns due to injuries.

Tilak reached his half-century shortly after the team crossed the 400-run mark following the tea break, hitting a six off Dean Foxcroft as India A aimed to boost their scoring rate.

Washington also celebrated his half-century, leading to India A's declaration at 464 for five in the third session.

With the declaration, focus shifted to India's pace attack, especially Jasprit Bumrah, who was making his first first-class appearance since the Guwahati Test against South Africa nearly a year ago.

Bumrah bowled six overs without taking a wicket, while Prasidh emerged as the more threatening bowler, making an immediate impact.

Prasidh dismissed Rhys Mariu with an inswinging delivery that breached his defense and knocked over the stumps. He later trapped Curtis Heaphy in front of the wickets for his second wicket.

Earlier, Prasidh had nearly dismissed Heaphy when the batter edged a delivery towards third slip, but Sai Sudharsan dropped the catch.

Despite being struck multiple times by the Indian bowlers, Heaphy continued his innings until Prasidh finally dismissed him with a sharply moving delivery.

Dean Foxcroft and nightwatchman Zak Gibson remained unbeaten at the end of the day's play as New Zealand A aimed to survive the remaining overs.

Bumrah, Prasidh, Mukesh Choudhary, and Mukesh Kumar all had chances to test their skills in match conditions, with India A treating this fixture as vital preparation for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.

Prasidh's two wickets ensured that India A maintained a strong grip on the match as Day 2 concluded.
