Inaugural Schools Total T20 League Kicks Off in Delhi with Over 90 Schools Participating
Launch of the Schools Total T20 League
New Delhi, October 15: The Schools Total T20 League (STTL), a fresh cricket tournament aimed at school and college students, was officially launched today in New Delhi. This inaugural season will see participation from more than 90 schools, with the first matches set to commence on October 22, 2026. The initiative is spearheaded by PNP Sports Management LLP.
Leadership and Structure of the League
Former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma has been appointed as the League Commissioner. The STTL will feature distinct competitions for schools and colleges, providing young cricketers a platform to engage in competitive T20 matches against teams from various institutions. Participation in the league will be by invitation only, as stated in a press release from STTL.
Prize Money and Future Plans
The champions of the league will be awarded Rs 5 lakh, while the runners-up will receive Rs 2 lakh. The league will initially launch in Delhi and will later expand to the National Capital Region, which includes Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. The organizers aim to incorporate more institutions in future seasons and eventually broaden the Colleges League. Additionally, plans for a football league are also in the works.
Chetan Sharma's Vision for Young Cricketers
During the launch event, Chetan Sharma expressed, “India has an abundance of talented young cricketers. The issue is that many lack sufficient opportunities to participate in competitive matches. While practice is essential, nothing compares to the experience gained from playing in real matches, managing pressure, and learning from those experiences. Tournaments like this are crucial. We want to provide more children with exposure while they are still in school. I am eager to be part of this league and witness these young talents in action. You never know where the next cricket star might emerge from.”
Founders' Commitment to Growth
Prashant Mehta, Founder and CEO, along with Paras Mishra, Founder Director at PNP Sports Management LLP, shared their vision: “When we conceptualized this league, we recognized the significant amount of cricket played in schools and colleges, yet noted the limited opportunities for students to compete outside their institutions. There are many talented players who deserve more chances to showcase their skills. We are starting with over 90 schools and aim to expand as the league develops. Our goal is to establish this as an annual event that excites students and makes schools proud to be involved. We also plan to extend beyond cricket in the future.”
Official Unveiling and Future Aspirations
The league was officially launched at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, attended by its founders, the League Commissioner, and various invited guests. The event featured a presentation detailing the competition format, the upcoming season, and plans for the league's expansion.
The organizers aspire for the STTL to become a staple in the school and college cricket calendar, offering students more chances to play competitive matches and gain valuable experience early in their sporting journeys. With the inaugural matches set to begin on October 22, this season marks the beginning of what the organizers hope will evolve into a long-lasting competition for young cricketers throughout Delhi NCR.
