ICC Revises Pitch Ratings for Gaddafi Stadium and Maple Leaf Cricket Ground
ICC's Recent Decisions on Pitch Ratings
On August 20, the International Cricket Council (ICC) made significant announcements regarding pitch ratings after reviewing appeals from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket Canada (CC) concerning demerit points assigned for matches played in June.
The ICC Appeals Panel reached its conclusions by examining match footage, reports from Match Referees, and feedback from team captains, as stated in a release from the ICC.
The demerit point previously assigned to Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, which received an 'Unsatisfactory' rating for the third ODI between Pakistan and Australia on June 4, has been revoked. The panel determined that although the Match Referee adhered to ICC guidelines, the pitch did not exhibit significant unevenness or excessive spin.
In contrast, the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground in King City, Toronto, was rated 'Unsatisfactory' for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match between the USA and the Netherlands on June 8, and received an 'Unfit' rating for a subsequent match between Canada and the Netherlands on June 16.
The Appeals Panel concluded that the pitch conditions on June 8 were acceptable, aligning with a satisfactory rating, as it did not show excessive seam movement or spin, leading to the withdrawal of the demerit point. However, the three demerit points for the 'Unfit' rating on June 16 remain, as the panel deemed the pitch conditions dangerous.
Currently, the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground holds three demerit points, while the Gaddafi Stadium has none.
