Public Screenings Approved for FIFA World Cup Final

In response to numerous requests from sports fans in Hyderabad, the State Government has authorized commercial and private venues to host public screenings of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, featuring Argentina against Spain. The highly anticipated match is set to kick off at 12:30 AM IST on Monday, allowing fans to gather from Sunday evening until the match concludes.

Hotels, restaurants, pubs, and other qualifying establishments are now permitted to organize live screenings for football enthusiasts, as stated in an official announcement.

While this relaxation has been granted, the government emphasized that security measures and restrictions akin to those implemented during New Year's Eve will be enforced to ensure public safety and maintain order.

Law enforcement has declared a zero-tolerance stance against any violations during the event, particularly concerning drunk driving, and has warned that strict penalties will be imposed on anyone breaking the law.

This initiative aims to provide football fans with a chance to enjoy the much-anticipated final in a secure and regulated setting.

Argentina's Journey to the Final

Argentina secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over England in the semifinals, staging a remarkable comeback after trailing in the first half. Enzo Fernandez equalized, followed by Lautaro Martinez scoring the decisive goal in stoppage time, propelling the defending champions into the final against Spain.

Lionel Messi played a crucial role in Argentina's success, assisting both goals despite not scoring himself, showcasing his importance in the team's comeback.

The semifinal match saw Argentina rallying after England took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon's goal. Following this, Argentina intensified their efforts, with key saves from Jordan Pickford and a near miss from Alexis Mac Allister hitting the post before Fernandez leveled the score in the 85th minute.

In stoppage time, Messi's cross found Martinez, who headed in the winner, securing Argentina's place in the final while England's hopes of reaching their first World Cup final since 1966 were dashed.

Spain's Path to the Final

Spain reached the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since their 2010 victory, defeating France 2-0 in a composed performance. Lamine Yamal was instrumental, winning a penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted in the 22nd minute to give Spain an early lead.

Pedro Porro extended Spain's advantage after halftime, following a well-executed play with Dani Olmo, while France struggled to create significant scoring opportunities. Yamal had a goal disallowed for offside, and despite late attempts from Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni, Spain's defense remained resolute, achieving their sixth clean sheet in seven matches.

This victory marks Spain's second-ever appearance in a World Cup final.
