Exciting Matches on Day 2 of Singapore Open

New Delhi [India] - On May 27, HS Prannoy achieved a remarkable victory against World No. 5 Jonatan Christie, winning 10-21, 21-12, 21-18 in a thrilling men’s singles match that lasted 61 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.


In other matches, Lakshya Sen secured a win against China's Lu Guang Zu with scores of 21-17, 21-15. Additionally, the mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto progressed to the next round after a hard-fought match, defeating Malaysia's Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien with scores of 21-14, 20-22, 21-13.


Prannoy, a former World No. 6, made a strong comeback after losing the first game. Despite Christie's previous 7-3 lead in their encounters, Prannoy took charge in the second game, quickly moving ahead from a 2-all tie to win 21-12.


The final game was intense, with Christie initially leading. However, Prannoy turned the tide, scoring five consecutive points after trailing 16-18 to clinch the match 21-18. He is set to face Singapore's Loh Kean Yew in the Round of 16, who recently defeated India's Kidambi Srikanth 22-20, 19-21, 21-17.


In another men’s singles match, Lakshya Sen's straight-game victory over Lu Guang Zu has earned him a spot in the pre-quarterfinals, where he will encounter Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who previously defeated Sen in the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open last month.


In mixed doubles, Dhruv and Tanisha started strong but faced a challenge as the Malaysians pushed the match to a deciding game. The Indian pair regained control from a 7-6 lead in the final game, ultimately winning 21-13 in 58 minutes.


In women's singles, Malvika Bansod fought valiantly but lost to Lin Hsiang Ti with scores of 21-11, 19-21, 12-21. Additionally, Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda were defeated in the women's doubles.
