In a groundbreaking moment for Indian cricket, Vande Mataram was performed prior to a match for the first time outside India. This significant event took place before the national anthem at the India-Japan T20I held at the Sano International Stadium on Tuesday.

This rendition of Vande Mataram marks a notable milestone, as it was previously played before the Indian national anthem during the inaugural T20I against Afghanistan on September 13, setting a precedent in international sports.

Earlier this year, on February 6, the Ministry of Home Affairs released directives mandating the performance of Vande Mataram in celebration of the song's 150th anniversary.

Additionally, the match between India and Japan was shortened to a five-over format due to a wet outfield, adding an unexpected twist to this historic encounter.
