Haryana Should Host 2030 Commonwealth Games, Urges Congress MP Deepender Hooda

Call for Haryana as Host for Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, August 4: Congress Member of Parliament Deepender Hooda has appealed to the central government to consider Haryana as a potential host or co-host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, highlighting the state's impressive track record in sports.

In a statement, Hooda stressed that any investment in sports infrastructure for the upcoming Games should primarily benefit Haryana, expressing optimism that India would excel at the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

“It’s a moment of pride that India will host the Commonwealth Games. I urge the government to select Haryana as the venue for these games. Over the past 15-20 years, Haryana has contributed to more than 50% of India’s medals in major sporting events. If substantial funds are allocated for sports development, they should be directed towards Haryana, as its athletes have consistently proven their mettle,” he stated.

He further emphasized the need for the central government to adhere to 'Raj Dharma', which advocates equal treatment for all states, criticizing the current focus on Gujarat for major projects and facilities.

“India should aim to be the leading nation in the 2030 Commonwealth Games. For the sake of national interest, Haryana deserves consideration as a host or at least a co-host. The principle of Raj Dharma suggests that all states should be treated equally, and the government should uphold this,” he concluded.

India secured fourth place in the medal tally at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, achieving a total of 39 medals, which included 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze. In November of the previous year, Ahmedabad was officially designated as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
