Brook Commends Jacks' Impact in World Cup

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 3: England's captain Harry Brook has expressed admiration for all-rounder Will Jacks, praising his remarkable contributions during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Brook emphasized Jacks' resilience and character in a challenging role.

Jacks is enjoying a stellar tournament, having secured four Player of the Match awards, matching the record set by former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson for the most awards in a single World Cup edition.

Throughout the tournament, the 27-year-old has accumulated 191 runs across seven innings, boasting an impressive average of 63 and a strike rate of 176, including 14 fours and 12 sixes. Additionally, he has taken seven wickets while bowling off-spin.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Brook remarked, “Jacks has been phenomenal. Achieving this in his first major World Cup, playing every match, is remarkable. We spoke to him during our pre-World Cup tour in Sri Lanka when he had a game where he didn’t bowl or bat much.”

Brook continued, “We informed him that this role can yield significant rewards when it leads to victories, and that embracing this position is crucial for his inclusion in the team. He has taken on this challenge and performed exceptionally well, showcasing impressive character.”

Brook also shared his strategic insights regarding bowling and game management, focusing on the importance of field placements and over-rate considerations.

“In high-pressure matches, maintaining composure as a captain is vital. You can see me holding onto the ball longer to engage with the bowler, ensuring they understand their objectives. For instance, with wide yorkers, I prioritize hitting the yorker length over the exact line,” Brook explained.

He added, “Unless the batter is attempting a scoop, they are unlikely to score boundaries. While unconventional field placements can be set, nailing the length typically results in dot balls or wickets. With our increased spin bowling, we aim to manage the over-rate effectively, which can be advantageous in various scenarios.”

Brook elaborated on his approach to managing bowlers during matches, stating, “I always consider my options. I inform the players about who might bowl the second over, though this can change. It’s about observing the game and deploying the most effective bowler for the situation, making it uncomfortable for the incoming batter.”

England has advanced to their fifth consecutive T20 World Cup semi-final, where they will face the defending champions, Team India, in the second semi-final of the 2026 edition at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5.
