Brook Commends Baker's Skills

London [UK], August 20: England's white-ball captain Harry Brook has expressed admiration for Sonny Baker's ability to handle pressure, as the young fast bowler is poised to potentially make his ODI debut against South Africa.

Described as "lively and sharp," Baker has gained attention after being selected for the three ODIs against the Proteas, set to occur on September 2, 4, and 7.

Just days following his selection, Baker showcased his talent by achieving a remarkable hat-trick for Manchester Originals against Northern Superchargers during The Hundred. He dismissed Dawid Malan with a clever slower ball, induced Tom Lawes into a miscue, and bowled Jacob Duffy out for a golden duck.

The 22-year-old has also claimed the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, while posing challenges to Australian stars David Warner and Steve Smith.

Brook noted, "There’s a reason we selected him. He bowls at high speeds, possesses skill, and has made a strong impression against international players like Kane Williamson, Warner, Smith, and Bairstow." He added, "He has successfully pressured them during the powerplay, which is exciting for us moving forward. He has the knack for taking wickets and even hat-tricks."

Currently, Baker ranks as the joint fourth-highest wicket-taker in the competition, with eight wickets in six matches, boasting an average of 15.75 and best figures of 3/21.

Earlier this year, Baker received a developmental central contract from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) following an impressive first-class debut during the England Lions tour of Australia, where he took eight wickets across two matches.

England's squad for the ODIs against South Africa includes: Harry Brook (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, and Jamie Smith.
