Harmanpreet Kaur Leads Mumbai Indians to Victory Over Gujarat Giants in WPL 2026
Mumbai Indians Triumph in WPL 2026 Match
Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 14: Following her match-winning performance against the Gujarat Giants in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians' captain Harmanpreet Kaur emphasized the significance of every match.
Kaur achieved a remarkable milestone with her 10th fifty-plus score, forming vital partnerships with Amanjot Kaur and Nicola Carey, which propelled the Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket victory at DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday.
This win marks the Mumbai Indians' second consecutive success in the WPL 2026 season, following their initial loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, placing them in second position.
After being awarded Player of the Match, Kaur acknowledged that her team had conceded too many runs but expressed satisfaction with their batting response.
“It was a good game. We gave away too many runs while bowling, but our batting was solid and well-calculated. Amanjot played exceptionally well. In a tournament like this, you need to aim for 200 runs, whether batting first or chasing. You must be prepared to bat for your team. With clarity in our approach, execution becomes easier,” Kaur stated during the post-match presentation, as reported by a Media House.
With this victory, the Mumbai Indians have maintained an unbeaten record against the Gujarat Giants, winning all eight encounters in WPL history, a unique achievement in the tournament.
When asked about her record against the Gujarat Giants, Kaur mentioned that she was unaware of the statistic, reiterating that every match holds importance for her.
“Every match is crucial for me. I wasn’t aware of that stat. It’s vital for me to show up every day and contribute to my team. It’s encouraging to see young players stepping up and taking responsibility. Aman is adaptable and ready to bat wherever needed,” Kaur added.
Harmanpreet's 10th fifty-plus score surpasses the previous records held by Mumbai Indians' Nat Sciver-Brunt and UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning, both with nine fifties.
Additionally, Kaur became the second player, after Nat Sciver, to reach 1,000 runs in WPL history, amassing 1,016 runs in 30 matches and 29 innings, averaging 46.18 with a strike rate of 146.18, including 10 fifties.
Brief scores: Gujarat Giants 192/5 in 20 overs (Georgia Wareham 43*, Bharti Fulmali 36*; Shabnim Ismail 1/25) vs Mumbai Indians: 193/3 (Harmanpreet Kaur 71*, Amanjot Kaur 40, Kashvee Gautam 1/33).
