Harmanpreet Kaur Highlights Aggressive Strategy in Series Win Against Sri Lanka
India's Dominance in Women's T20 Series
On Friday, Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women's cricket team, expressed satisfaction with the team's aggressive strategy during their recent series victory over Sri Lanka, as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.
India secured an eight-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the third WT20I, clinching a decisive 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
Following their historic ODI World Cup triumph last month, the team is now setting its sights on the T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2024.
"This series has been fantastic for us. After the World Cup, we agreed on the need to elevate our game and adopt a more aggressive style in T20s, especially with the World Cup approaching. I am very pleased with our overall performance," Harmanpreet stated during the post-match presentation.
She particularly commended the bowling unit for their consistent ability to limit Sri Lanka's scoring throughout the series.
"The contributions from our bowlers have been crucial. In T20 cricket, effective bowling is vital. Our current position is largely due to their efforts, so they deserve the credit," she added.
Harmanpreet explained that the decision to rotate bowlers was intentional, praising pacer Renuka Singh Thakur for her remarkable comeback performance, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs.
"We recognized the importance of their top order in the first six overs, so we opted for Renuka to secure early breakthroughs. Although her first over was unexpected, her ability to bounce back and claim four wickets was impressive," she remarked.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka's captain Chamari Athapaththu acknowledged that her team fell short in the series, especially in their batting performance.
"We haven't played our best cricket throughout this tournament. Our batting unit has struggled significantly, and we need to make improvements. While we have utilized our strongest batting lineup, we are still experimenting with our bowling," she noted.
"Imesha Dulani and Kavisha Dilhari showed promise with their batting today, which are positives for us, but we are still looking to test some players ahead of the World Cup."
