Harmanpreet Kaur Celebrates Milestone ODI Century Amid Career Transition
Harmanpreet Kaur's Historic Achievement
Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], October 25: Following her remarkable eighth ODI century, Harmanpreet Kaur emphasized the significance of embracing reality and maintaining focus on the sport. She expressed that cricket has consistently brought her joy, and she aims to continue relishing her batting as she enters a new chapter in her career.
Kaur solidified her status in Indian women's cricket with an impressive 126 runs off 121 balls against Zimbabwe during the second ODI on Sunday. This achievement allowed her to surpass former captain Mithali Raj, making her the second-highest century-maker for India in women's ODIs.
In her post-match comments, Kaur reflected on the emotional journey of recent weeks and her mental preparation for a fresh start, especially after Smriti Mandhana took over as India's captain prior to the Zimbabwe series.
"I prefer to live life grounded in reality, and this is my current situation. I want to accept it as it is. Cricket has always been a source of happiness for me, and I have enjoyed batting throughout my career. Moving forward, I just want to savor every moment at the crease," Kaur stated.
Her historic innings, combined with Deepti Sharma's unbeaten 106 off 86 balls, propelled India to a formidable total of 328/6 after opting to bat first.
Kaur's century, along with Sharma's performance and a four-wicket haul from Vaishnavi Sharma, led India Women to a convincing 121-run victory over Zimbabwe.
This win secured India a 2-0 lead in the three-match series, and they are now poised to complete a series sweep in the final ODI after clinching the series with a match remaining.
