Harmanpreet Kaur Attributes Winning Mindset to WPL and Mumbai Indians

Harmanpreet Kaur's Winning Philosophy

On Wednesday, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her gratitude towards the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and her team, the Mumbai Indians, for instilling in her a 'winning mindset.' This mentality proved invaluable as she led the national team to victory in the women's ODI World Cup.

Having secured two titles with the Mumbai Indians in the WPL, Harmanpreet noted that her experience with the franchise has transformed her competitive approach.

She stated, 'I want to focus on winning wherever I go. Participation alone doesn't yield results, and I believe that adopting a winning mindset can lead to significant achievements for both myself and my country.' Harmanpreet emphasized that her time with MI has reshaped her thinking, overcoming previous limitations.

Reflecting on her mindset shift, she remarked, 'The Mumbai Indians have consistently won IPL titles, and being part of that environment has influenced my perspective. Their focus is always on strategizing to outperform opponents and secure titles.'

Lisa Keightley, the newly appointed coach of the Mumbai Indians, highlighted that Indian domestic players are now experiencing the right level of competition, which is evident in their performances.

'Indian international players are facing excellent competition leading up to World Cups, which prepares them for high-pressure situations,' Lisa explained. 'Performing well in domestic leagues enhances their capabilities when they transition to international play. This was evident when India triumphed in the recent 50-over World Cup, especially during the pressure-filled semi-final and final matches.'

Keightley attributed India's World Cup success partly to the influence of the WPL over the past three years, stating, 'The WPL has played a crucial role in this achievement, and we are witnessing the benefits as players compete internationally.'

Taking over the Mumbai Indians after Charlotte Edwards stepped down to coach the England women's team, Keightley expressed her excitement about her new role. 'Mumbai holds a special place for me, as I have always seen positive outcomes when I play here. I anticipate this season will be equally remarkable,' she shared.

She acknowledged the importance of ensuring the team is mentally prepared for the upcoming competition starting January 9. 'Our squad is well-established, with a strong core group of players. We will maintain clarity in roles as we head into the matches,' she added.

'While I don't foresee major changes, fostering a sense of hunger, passion, and a family-like atmosphere is crucial. It’s our responsibility, alongside Harman and the coaching staff, to ensure our players feel supported and empowered to perform their roles effectively.'
