Hardik Pandya's Uncertain Future with Mumbai Indians: Trade Speculations Arise
Pandya's Troubling Return to Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya's comeback to the Mumbai Indians (MI) has not gone as planned, leading to speculation that he might depart from the five-time IPL champions before the next season. Neither MI nor Pandya has commented on the rumors surrounding his potential exit. As fans eagerly await updates on his status with the team, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Subramaniam Badrinath suggested that CSK should consider acquiring Pandya by trading Shivam Dube to MI. In a discussion on his YouTube channel, Badrinath expressed that having both Pandya and Ben Stokes on the CSK roster would be an ideal scenario. Stokes, who has retired from international cricket, is expected to return to the IPL in 2027 after playing for CSK in 2023. "MI won't let go of Hardik Pandya easily; they will demand at least two players in exchange. CSK should swap Shivam Dube for Hardik as an all-rounder exchange. It would be a dream for CSK to secure Hardik along with Ben Stokes. They are likely in talks for Hardik but may not want to disclose it just yet," Badrinath stated.
Pandya's leadership saw MI struggle, as they failed to advance past the initial rounds of IPL 2026, finishing with only four victories and a total of eight points. They narrowly avoided the bottom position in the standings, thanks to a superior net run rate compared to the Lucknow Super Giants.
Pandya's Major Trade Back to MI
Hardik Pandya's return to MI marked a significant trade in IPL history. After two successful seasons with the Gujarat Titans (GT), he took over as captain of MI, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who was removed from his position as India's all-format captain. Unfortunately, under Pandya's captaincy, MI ended up at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table, marking a first for the franchise. In 2025, MI was eliminated after a defeat to the Punjab Kings in the second qualifier, and in 2026, they managed only four wins throughout the season.
