Mumbai Indians Aim for Glory Under Hardik Pandya

The Mumbai Indians are gearing up for the IPL 2026 season with Hardik Pandya at the helm, determined to break their five-year trophy drought and solidify their status as the most successful franchise in IPL history. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has emphasized the importance of Pandya stepping up as a leader to achieve this goal.

During a discussion on JioHotstar, Harbhajan Singh expressed that Hardik Pandya must showcase his best performance. He stated, “Hardik needs to reveal his true potential. He must bring his top game, both as a batsman and a bowler, to make a significant impact.”

Singh highlighted Pandya's impressive bowling during the T20 World Cup, noting, “He was exceptional with the ball, and he needs to replicate that in the IPL. A captain who leads by example inspires the team. If Hardik and his squad believe from the outset that they are not just participants but contenders for the trophy, the dynamics for MI can shift rapidly.”

Hardik Pandya took over as captain of the Mumbai Indians in 2023, succeeding Rohit Sharma ahead of the IPL 2024 season. The team struggled, finishing last in the points table in 2024 and fourth in the previous season. Pandya had previously led the Gujarat Titans to their first IPL title in 2022.

Harbhajan also shared his thoughts on the South African duo of Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock, predicting that they will not both be included in the starting XI for MI this season. He remarked, “I doubt the MI management will field both Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton together. Only one will likely start, as Rohit Sharma will be the primary opener, accompanied by either Rickelton or de Kock.”

“Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma are expected to bat at three and four, respectively. Therefore, it’s unlikely we will see both Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton on the field simultaneously,” Singh concluded.
