Hardik Pandya Prepares for ODI World Cup 2027 After IPL Duties
Hardik Pandya's Focus on National Team
Currently leading the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, Hardik Pandya is set to return to the Indian national team after the tournament concludes. He is a vital player in the white-ball format for India. Following consecutive victories in the T20 World Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy, the Indian squad is now aiming to secure the ODI World Cup title for the first time since 2011, with the 2027 edition scheduled to take place in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Pandya's role will be essential for this tournament, and he is making the necessary preparations.
As reported by a leading news outlet, the Indian team management anticipates that Pandya will be able to bowl his full quota of 10 overs on the fast and bouncy pitches of the upcoming ODI World Cup. While he may not need to bowl the full 10 overs in every match, he is expected to deliver at least 6-7 overs per game. A source close to the situation stated, “Hardik is expected to play a significant role in the ODI setup since the World Cup will be played on fast and bouncy pitches in South Africa. He can provide the perfect balance. However, he must demonstrate to the selectors and management that he can bowl 10 overs. While he may not be needed for the full quota in every match, he should be ready if the captain requires more from him.”
Hardik Pandya's Increased Workload
Throughout his career, Hardik Pandya has faced numerous injuries, leading him to step away from Test cricket. Nevertheless, reports indicate that he is ramping up his workload to prepare for the demands of bowling 10 overs in ODIs. “Hardik has been increasing his workload. He has refined his bowling action to include in-swingers without sacrificing pace. He believes his body is now ready to handle the demands of bowling 10 overs in ODIs,” the source added.
