Harbhajan Singh Praises Young Sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Unmatched Talent
Harbhajan Singh's Insights on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Renowned Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed admiration for the exceptional talent of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, stating that his bold batting style is unmatched in the realm of international cricket. According to Harbhajan, any bowler aiming to challenge the 15-year-old must adopt an aggressive strategy, as merely trying to contain him is futile.
Harbhajan emphasized that Sooryavanshi, despite his youth and limited experience, has the ability to instill uncertainty in bowlers.
In a podcast interview, Harbhajan remarked, "Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is remarkable. He stands out as a player unlike any other I have encountered, capable of making a significant impact at such a young age of 14-15 years."
Sooryavanshi made history as the youngest player to debut in the IPL at just 14 years old with the Rajasthan Royals in 2025. He quickly followed this achievement by becoming the youngest batter to score a century in men's T20 cricket, hitting a stunning 35-ball hundred against the Gujarat Titans.
His ascent continued this year when he became the youngest player to represent India internationally, debuting against England at Old Trafford at the age of 15 years and 99 days.
In the Under-19 World Cup final, Sooryavanshi scored an impressive 175 runs off 80 balls, setting a record for the highest individual score in the tournament's finals and earning the title of Player of the Tournament as India claimed victory.
During the IPL season, the young star made headlines by hitting sixes off the very first deliveries from elite bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins.
Harbhajan noted, "When top bowlers face him, they are contemplating their bowling strategy, which speaks volumes about his talent."
So, what is the best approach to bowl to a player who remains unfazed by the bowler's reputation or the match's significance?
Harbhajan advised, "The key is to be aggressive. You must attack him to take his wicket."
He acknowledged that this strategy might not always succeed, as Sooryavanshi could hit sixes, but it's a risk that comes with the game. "You have to recognize his skill," he added.
When asked how he would approach bowling to Sooryavanshi during a powerplay, Harbhajan stated, "I wouldn’t adjust my field based on his actions. Instead, I would focus on my own strategy. If I bowl defensively, I won’t be able to dismiss him."
He concluded, "You must go after him to take his wicket. Success may vary, but that’s part of the game. The next delivery should always be aimed at getting him out."
