Gurnoor Brar's Bowling Strategy Shines in India's ODI Victory Over New Zealand
Brar's Game Plan Leads to Success
Auckland [New Zealand], November 5: After India's triumph against New Zealand in the opening ODI, Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar shared insights into his successful strategy that earned him three wickets. He emphasized the importance of hitting a hard length to leverage the advantageous bounce attributed to his height.
Following a series of inconsistent performances in ODIs both at home and in England, Brar excelled with figures of 3/44 in 9.2 overs against New Zealand, claiming the wickets of Tim Seifert and Tom Latham. His ability to generate impressive pace and bounce was evident on the fast-friendly pitch in Auckland.
In a video released by the BCCI, Gurnoor remarked, "The conditions here are excellent for bowlers. The pitches are quite favorable. We practiced here for four to five days prior, so the pitch conditions were familiar. I relied on my length and bowling technique, and the results followed."
He further explained, "The game plan was to consider the shorter straight boundary. The six I conceded in my first over came from a slightly fuller delivery. Therefore, I aimed to adjust my length to make it challenging to hit over square leg or fine leg. I consulted with Arshdeep and Anshul, who had bowled on this pitch, and they advised that maintaining a hard length would enhance my bounce due to my height."
Now, after 10 matches, Brar has secured 17 wickets with an average of 36.76, boasting best figures of 3/27.
Virat Kohli's commanding 74 and stellar bowling performances from Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj were pivotal as India triumphed over New Zealand in a rain-affected first ODI of the five-match series in Auckland on Wednesday.
Arshdeep led the bowling attack with an impressive four-wicket haul, while Gurnoor Brar contributed with 3/44 in 9.2 overs, and Anshul Kamboj added two wickets for just 22 runs in 10 overs, effectively dismantling New Zealand's batting lineup for 185 runs. India successfully chased down a revised target of 143 runs in 32 overs, despite interruptions from rain.
