Gulveer Singh Breaks National Half-Marathon Record

New Delhi, March 15: Gulveer Singh, a prominent distance runner from India, has set a new national record in the men's half-marathon (21km) during the New York City Half Marathon held on Sunday.

The 27-year-old athlete, who serves in the army, completed the race in an impressive time of 59:42, securing third place overall. South Africa's Adriaan Wildschutt took the top spot with a time of 59:30, while Zouhair Talbi, an American long-distance runner originally from Morocco, finished just ahead of Singh at 59:41.

Previously, the national record stood at 1:00:30, a mark set by steeplechase expert Avinash Sable during the Delhi Half Marathon in 2020.

Singh has made history as the first Indian distance runner to hold multiple national records, spanning distances from the 3,000m track to the 25km road race. He is also an Asian Games medallist and holds the national records for the men's 5,000m and 10,000m events.

In 2025, Singh excelled at the Asian Athletics Championships, clinching victories in both the 5,000m and 10,000m track events. He is optimistic about achieving podium finishes at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July and the Asian Games in September, stating, “I’m fit and looking forward to good results in upcoming major international races.”

Currently, Singh trains in Colorado Springs, USA.
