In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 28, Indian runner Gulveer Singh achieved a remarkable feat by winning the silver medal in the men's 1500m event during the Asian Games 2026. He recorded a personal best time of 3:36.72 in the final, as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Throughout the race, Gulveer maintained a competitive position among the 12 finalists, ultimately delivering a powerful performance in the final lap to secure his silver medal.

The gold medal was claimed by Japan's Kazuto Iizawa, who set a new Games Record with a time of 3:36.35, while fellow Japanese athlete Nagiya Mori took home the bronze with a time of 3:37.92.

Gulveer finished a mere 0.37 seconds behind Iizawa's record and comfortably ahead of Mori, solidifying his silver medal win.

Another Indian competitor, Yoonus Shah, finished ninth in the race, clocking in at 3:43.88.

This silver medal marks a significant improvement for India in the men's 1500m event at the Asian Games, following a bronze medal win in the previous edition.

Gulveer's time of 3:36.72 not only earned him a podium finish but also represented his personal best performance on such a prestigious platform.

With this achievement, India adds another medal to its athletics tally at the Asian Games, with Gulveer standing proudly on the podium alongside the two Japanese athletes.

Notably, this is Gulveer Singh's second silver medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, having previously secured silver in the men's 10,000m event on Friday with a time of 28:29.38, finishing just behind Bahrain's Birhanu Balew, who won gold with a time of 28:27.51.

With Gulveer's latest achievement, India's overall medal count has reached 41, which includes four gold, 18 silver, and 19 bronze medals, placing the country 12th in the medal standings.
