Elavenil Valarivan Honored for Asian Games Achievements
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], September 28: Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi presented a commendation of Rs 1.33 crore to Elavenil Valarivan, a talented rifle shooter from Gujarat, under the Khel Pratibha Puraskar Yojana. This recognition comes in light of her impressive performance at the Asian Games 2026, where she secured two silver medals.
During the Asian Games held in Japan, Elavenil showcased her exceptional skills in rifle shooting, earning accolades for the nation and her home state. She clinched silver in both the Women’s 10m Air Rifle (Individual) and Women’s 10m Air Rifle (Team) events.
In his remarks, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the Gujarat Government's dedication to fostering athletic talent by providing essential training and resources for athletes to excel on the international stage. He acknowledged that the success of athletes is a reflection of their hard work and the unwavering support from their families.
Elavenil, who honed her skills at the Sanskardham complex through the state’s DLSS scheme, has made Gujarat proud with her achievements at the Asian Games. The DyCM noted that her success serves as an inspiration for countless young athletes across the state.
To ensure Elavenil continues her remarkable performance, the Gujarat Government has allocated a total of Rs 2.41 crore in incentives, which includes Rs 1.33 crore from the Shaktidoot Scheme and Olympic Incentive Scheme, alongside Rs 74 lakh from various other initiatives.
At just 27 years old, Elavenil Valarivan, who resides in Ahmedabad's Maninagar area, is a beacon of inspiration for both Gujarat and India. Since 2017-18, she has been part of the Gujarat Government's 'Shaktidoot Scheme' and has established herself as a leading figure in the state's sports community.
Her career is highlighted by significant milestones, including her participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. In 2019, she achieved a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro with an impressive score of 251.7.
In recognition of her international accomplishments, Elavenil was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Government of India in 2022. She has also excelled in various competitions, securing multiple medals at the Junior World Cups in Suhl and Sydney (2018), Asian Airgun Championships, World University Games in Chengdu, and other international events in Munich and Kazakhstan in 2025.
