Commonwealth Games Flag Presented to Gujarat

On Wednesday, the Commonwealth Games flag was officially handed over to Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel as Ahmedabad gears up to host the prestigious event in 2030.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, fresh from his trip to Glasgow, presented the flag during a cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar, marking the start of the preparations for the upcoming games.

Sanghavi, alongside Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha, attended the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Sunday, where the flag was ceremoniously transferred to India in anticipation of the 2030 event in Ahmedabad.

An official statement noted, "Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi presented the Commonwealth Games Flag with utmost respect to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during the cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar."

The event was also attended by para-athletes Rakesh Bhatt and Rohit Majgul, who represented Gujarat at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, along with para table tennis player Sonal Patel.

According to the release, "The Commonwealth Games Flag will remain in Gujarat until the 2030 Commonwealth Games, serving as a source of inspiration for athletes and symbolizing the initiation of preparations for the event, while also promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Fit India' vision."

Upon arriving at Ahmedabad Airport earlier on Wednesday, Sanghavi expressed confidence that Ahmedabad would set a new standard for hosting the Commonwealth Games.

He stated, "These Games will be organized with grandeur and optimal arrangements for the athletes, ensuring that every participant can perform at their best."

Sanghavi, who oversees the sports portfolio, reaffirmed the state government's dedication to advancing PM Modi's 'Fit India' initiative and anti-drug campaign.

"We are committed to promoting the anti-drug campaign and the Fit India Movement to provide the youth of the country with ample opportunities in sports. The Gujarat Government is actively working towards this objective, and with the support of the Government of India, we will continue to push this agenda forward," he added.

He also emphasized the rapid development of sports infrastructure in Gujarat, stating, "Under the Prime Minister's guidance, sports facilities are advancing across the nation. In Ahmedabad, numerous new sports infrastructures have been developed swiftly under CM Patel's leadership over the past few years."
