Gujarat's Vision for Commonwealth Games 2030
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], April 8: Harsh Sanghvi, the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, engaged in productive discussions aimed at enhancing the state's sports infrastructure in preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2030, which will take place in Ahmedabad.
A delegation from the Commonwealth Sport team visited Gujarat on Wednesday, marking their initial engagement since Ahmedabad was officially designated as the host city for the Centenary Games.
Sanghvi shared on X, stating, "Productive discussions on developing world-class sports facilities and advancing our collective vision for the Commonwealth Games 2030."

During their visit, the delegation met with senior officials and will evaluate the proposed venues for the upcoming Games. The tour commenced with a welcoming meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.
CM Bhupendra Patel emphasized, "Gujarat is dedicated to executing the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030 through collaborative efforts, adhering to the time-bound, qualitative, and effective planning principles set forth by Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi."
Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, invited CM Bhupendra Patel to the Commonwealth Games, which are set to kick off on July 23, 2026, in Glasgow.
The 2030 Commonwealth Games will commemorate the centenary of the event and are anticipated to enhance India's chances of hosting the 2036 Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee confirmed that Commonwealth Sport granted Ahmedabad the rights to host the 2030 centenary Games, recognizing the city as the venue to celebrate 100 years since the inaugural Games held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.
The first Commonwealth Games took place in 1930 in Hamilton, featuring a limited number of participating countries, while the latest Games in Birmingham, England, in 2022 saw Australia leading the medal tally, followed by England, Canada, India, and New Zealand.
