Gujarat Giants' Anushka Sharma Faces Short Injury Break in WPL 2026
Anushka Sharma's Injury Update
Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 13: Anushka Sharma, an all-rounder for the Gujarat Giants, will be sidelined temporarily due to a minor injury she incurred while fielding against the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 season, as reported by a sports news outlet.
According to a statement from the Giants, "Anushka is currently being closely monitored by the team's medical personnel and is showing positive signs of recovery. While her absence will be felt, our primary concern is her health and long-term recovery."
Sharma made a notable debut in the WPL, scoring 44 runs off 30 deliveries against the UP Warriorz, and formed a remarkable 103-run partnership with captain Ashleigh Gardner.
In her subsequent match against the Delhi Capitals, she hit a six and a four during her brief 10-ball innings and showcased her fielding skills with an impressive leap at the boundary to prevent Jemimah Rodrigues from scoring a six. It's worth mentioning that Sharma, who is an off-spinner, has yet to bowl in the current WPL season.
In another match, a solid partnership of 52 runs between Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali enabled the Gujarat Giants to set a formidable target of 193 runs against the Mumbai Indians during the sixth match of the WPL 2026 season on Tuesday.
Fulmali contributed significantly with an unbeaten 36 runs off 15 balls, including three fours and three sixes, while Wareham added 43 runs off 33 balls, hitting five boundaries, leading Gujarat to a total of 192/5 in their 20 overs.
On the bowling side, Shabnim Ismail (1/25), Hayley Matthews (1/34), Nicola Carey (1/36), and Amelia Kerr (1/40) were among the wicket-takers for the Mumbai Indians.
Brief scores: Gujarat Giants 192/5 in 20 overs (Georgia Wareham 43*, Bharti Fulmali 36*; Shabnim Ismail 1/25) vs Mumbai Indians.
