Support for Indian Athletes in Glasgow

On July 31, Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi made a visit to Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland, to uplift the spirits of Indian athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games.

During his time at the stadium, the Deputy Chief Minister engaged with Indian sports fans and supporters, witnessing the incredible enthusiasm of the crowd rallying behind athletes like Neeraj Chopra.

Joining in the cheers, Sanghavi conveyed his best wishes to all Indian competitors, hoping for their exceptional performances.

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra faced challenging conditions but managed to secure his spot in the men's javelin final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Thursday. Other Indian athletes, including Rohit Yadav, Yash Vir Singh, Tejaswin Shankar, Praveen Chitravel, and Selva Prabhu, also showcased strong performances during the first half of Day 7 in athletics.

Neeraj, known for his dominance in qualification rounds, had to rely on his second throw this time due to the windy conditions in Glasgow. He started with a throw of 76.28m and improved to 79.61m on his second attempt, finishing fifth in the qualification standings.

After securing his place in the final, he opted not to take his final throw. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage led the qualification round with a throw of 82.84m, followed by Grenada's Anderson Peters at 81.29m. South Africa's Douw Smit (80.64m) and England's Ben East (80.38m) rounded out the top four.
