Glenn Maxwell Retires from International Cricket After Stellar 14-Year Career
Glenn Maxwell Bids Farewell to International Cricket
On November 3, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell officially announced his retirement from international cricket, concluding an impressive 14-year journey representing Australia.
The 38-year-old's last appearance for the national team was during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where he played against Oman in February. In that match, he took two wickets but did not get a chance to bat, marking the end of his time in Australian colors.
Throughout his career, Maxwell participated in 149 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 130 T20 Internationals (T20Is), and seven Test matches. He was part of two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victories in 2015 and 2023, as well as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2021.
Known for his explosive batting style and game-changing abilities, Maxwell was a crucial player in Australia’s white-ball cricket for over a decade.
A highlight of his career occurred during the 2023 ODI World Cup when he achieved an incredible unbeaten double century against Afghanistan, showcasing his resilience and skill in a thrilling run chase. This innings is celebrated as one of the most remarkable performances in the tournament's history.
In ODIs, Maxwell scored a total of 3,990 runs with an impressive strike rate of 126.7. His T20I contributions included 2,897 runs at a striking rate of 154.4. He concluded his international career with 10 centuries and 136 wickets across all formats, emphasizing his prowess as a true all-rounder.
Although Maxwell had previously announced his retirement from ODIs in June 2025, he continued to be available for T20I selection. He represented Australia in the 2026 T20 World Cup, where the team unfortunately did not advance past the group stage.
With his final match against Oman, Maxwell closes a chapter marked by fearless batting, significant match-winning contributions, and remarkable versatility.
