Gavan Twining Appointed Head Coach of Melbourne Renegades for WBBL Season
New Leadership for the Renegades
Melbourne [Australia], August 14: The Melbourne Renegades have officially announced the appointment of Gavan Twining as the head coach for the upcoming season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
Twining, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Australian women's cricket team, played a significant role in their triumph at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
He will join the Renegades in Melbourne following Australia's series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, before returning to his duties with Cricket Australia after the WBBL concludes.

He succeeds Simon Helmot, the previous championship-winning coach, who departed the Renegades to take on a new role with another franchise.
In the interim, Clint McKay, the High Performance Manager and former Australian cricketer, will lead the team during the upcoming Spring Challenge.
Upon his appointment, Twining expressed enthusiasm about joining the Melbourne Renegades, stating, “I’m thrilled to be part of the Renegades and eager to work with this talented group. The team has a solid foundation, and I look forward to helping the players progress and build on the club's past successes.”
He further added, “Having been involved in the Australian team’s World Cup journey, I’m excited to bring that experience to the Renegades and help deliver performances that our members and fans can take pride in.”
Max Abbott, the General Manager of Melbourne Renegades, remarked, “Gavan is a fantastic addition to our WBBL program, bringing invaluable World Cup-winning experience. There’s already a positive atmosphere within the squad, and we believe Gavan is the right person to enhance that, collaborating with our experienced leaders.”
“While Gavan fulfills his commitments with the Australian team, we are confident that Clint McKay will effectively manage the preparations for the Spring Challenge and ensure we are ready for the opening match on October 29,” Abbott concluded.
