Gautam Gambhir Advocates for Ball Switching in Day Tests

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has expressed his support for the ICC's initiative to permit the transition from red to pink balls during day matches. This change aims to enhance the likelihood of achieving results, particularly when adverse weather conditions or poor lighting threaten to disrupt play.

He stated, "I am in favor of this because I have always believed in seizing opportunities for results whenever possible."

Gambhir elaborated, "Consider a scenario where the final Test before the World Test Championship (WTC) final is at stake, and a victory is crucial for qualification. If bad light prevents that from happening, it would be disappointing. Therefore, I fully support this idea."

However, he noted that such a switch would require mutual consent from both team captains. "While players may find it challenging to adapt, as a coach, I would prefer to see a match concluded with a result rather than being abandoned due to insufficient light," he remarked.

Looking ahead, Gambhir remains hopeful about India's chances of reaching the WTC final. "The WTC cycle holds significant importance, and I maintain a positive outlook because of the exceptional talent we possess. I firmly believe we can clinch the World Test Championship, and this sentiment is shared by everyone in the dressing room," he added.

India faced a setback in their recent home Test series against South Africa, suffering a 2-0 defeat. Currently, they sit in sixth place on the WTC standings after participating in nine matches. "Nine Tests are just a small part of the extensive WTC cycle. While we may encounter a few challenging series, we are confident in our talent," he concluded.
