Gautam Gambhir's Tribute to Ajit Agarkar

On Wednesday, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed his admiration for Ajit Agarkar, the outgoing chairman of selectors. Gambhir remarked that 'history will be more favorable' to Agarkar, whose commitment to prioritizing the team played a vital role in India securing three ICC trophies during his time in office.

Agarkar's term concluded last month, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday that they are seeking applications to fill the now-vacant position. This decision followed weeks of uncertainty regarding the possibility of an extension for Agarkar.

In a heartfelt message, Gambhir stated, 'Dear Ajit Bhai, it has been a true privilege to collaborate with you. The three ICC trophies stand as proof of your dedication to putting the team first. I firmly believe that history will reflect positively on your contributions. Thank you for everything, and I wish you all the best in your future pursuits!'

Under Agarkar's leadership, India clinched the T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026, as well as the Champions Trophy in 2025. His tenure was marked by a significant transition, including the retirements of batting legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from T20 and Test formats.

Agarkar was known for his decisive approach and has not confirmed whether Kohli and Rohit will be part of the plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
