Allegations of Interference by Gary Kirsten

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing scrutiny once again as former coach Gary Kirsten has made serious allegations regarding interference within the board. Kirsten expressed his astonishment at the level of disruption he encountered, stating that he had never experienced anything similar during his coaching career. He emphasized that such external noise complicates a coach's ability to effectively manage and guide players. Although he refrained from naming specific individuals, it was evident that his comments were directed at certain PCB members.

Response from PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi

During a press conference focused on the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi addressed Kirsten's allegations. He shifted the responsibility for responding to these claims to those who had regular interactions with Kirsten, suggesting that he himself had limited engagement with the former South African cricketer.

Kirsten's Insights on Coaching Challenges

What Gary Kirsten Shared

Kirsten remarked, “What surprised me the most was the extent of interference. I have never witnessed anything like it before. It becomes quite challenging for a coach to devise a strategy when there is incessant external noise.” He shared these thoughts during an interview with talkSPORT Cricket, reflecting on his time leading the Pakistan team in white-ball formats.

PCB Chief's Comments on Kirsten's Allegations

Naqvi stated, “I didn’t have many interactions with Gary Kirsten, so it would be more appropriate for those who coordinated with him to address his allegations in detail.” This response came as he was questioned about Kirsten's claims ahead of the PSL season. Kirsten, who took on the role of coach for the Pakistan white-ball team in April 2024, resigned just six months later due to disagreements with the PCB. Despite the challenges, he enjoyed working with the players, noting that professional cricketers, regardless of cultural differences, are generally wonderful individuals. He added, “Even with a language barrier, the shared love for cricket helps us communicate effectively.”
