Ganga Kings Upset Gazab Ghaziabad in Thrilling UPL Match
Ganga Kings Triumph Over Gazab Ghaziabad
Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 8: The opening match of the Do-or-Die Week on Day 15 of the Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League (UPKL) Season 2 was crucial for both teams. The Ganga Kings from Mirzapur, already eliminated from the top-four race, faced off against Gazab Ghaziabad, who were in fourth place and needed a victory to secure their playoff spot.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dinesh Sharma, attended the match at the Noida Indoor Stadium and was honored before the game, according to a UPKL press release.
The match started with both teams evenly matched, exchanging raids and tackles. However, as the game progressed, the Ganga Kings improved their defensive strategy, taking control of the match. Their solid defense led to Gazab Ghaziabad being all-out twice, allowing Ganga Kings to build a significant lead and shift the momentum in their favor.
In the second half, Gazab Ghaziabad increased their efforts and managed to force an all-out on Ganga Kings, momentarily reigniting their hopes for a comeback. Nevertheless, the gap was too large to close, and Ganga Kings skillfully managed the game, preventing Gazab from gaining the momentum they needed.
As the match neared its conclusion, Ganga Kings remained calm under pressure, keeping Gazab at a distance and ultimately winning 44-38. This victory was pivotal during the Do-or-Die Week, as Ganga Kings, despite being out of the top-four race, thwarted Gazab Ghaziabad's playoff ambitions, adding another layer of intrigue to the playoff scenario.
On the same day, additional matches took place, including Lucknow Lions versus Brij Stars, Aligarh Tigers against Yamuna Yoddhas, and JD Noida Ninjas facing Kashi Kings, all of which had significant implications for the final league standings.
