Gaganjeet Bhullar's Upcoming IGPL Invitational

Port Louis [Mauritius], April 8: Gaganjeet Bhullar is gearing up to participate in the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Invitational 2026, which is being hosted by tennis legend Leander Paes in Mauritius. At 37 years old, Bhullar boasts an impressive record with 11 victories on the Asian Tour, the highest for any Indian golfer, and has also secured four wins on the IGPL Tour, including the inaugural event in Chandigarh last month. The tournament is scheduled to commence on April 9.

This event marks the second stop on the IGPL Tour 2026 and is the first to take place outside of India this year, kicking off a series of three events in Africa, which will also include stops in South Africa and Congo, as per a recent announcement. Last year, the IGPL held events in Dubai and Sri Lanka.

With the IGPL expanding to include 10 franchises this year, the league is integrated into the Tour, allowing it to visit 10 different cities, each representing a franchise.

Upon his arrival in Mauritius on Tuesday, Bhullar expressed, “I just reached Mauritius today. I plan to play a practice round tomorrow. I previously participated in an event here a few years back. The golf course is stunning, and it’s a significant achievement for the IGPL to host an event in Mauritius. It offers a wonderful experience for many young players who haven’t had the chance to compete in tournaments outside India.”

He continued, “This course is challenging due to the wind and is recognized as a European Tour venue. Overall, I anticipate a fantastic week and am eager to perform well.”

Having played in this location before when the event was co-sanctioned by both the Asian and European Tours, Bhullar is excited about this week’s competition and aims to add another success to his career.

Reflecting on his season thus far, he stated, “I had a strong start in the IGPL, winning my first event this year. My goal is to maintain that momentum and continue improving as a player, especially with the collaboration between the IGPL and the Liv-backed International Series. I’m looking forward to this opportunity to enhance my standing in the Order of Merit and potentially qualify for Liv.”

“Winning is always our primary objective, and that’s my aim this week as well. Last year, I clinched victories in the first two events in Chandigarh and Greater Noida, and I hope to achieve back-to-back wins again,” Bhullar remarked, acknowledging the tough competition he faces from skilled players like Karandeep Kochhar and Pukhraj Singh Gill.

Leander Paes, who owns the Flying Man Kolkata franchise, has played a crucial role in bringing the IGPL Invitational to Mauritius, with the Mauritius Economic Development Board actively supporting the event and promoting golf through the IGPL.

Paes, celebrated as one of the greatest doubles tennis players with 18 Grand Slam titles, is also passionate about golf and is working to foster business ties between India and countries like Mauritius.

In 2026, Bhullar plans to balance his commitments between the IGPL, the International Series, and the Asian Tour, and as a senior player in the IGPL, he enjoys mentoring the younger generation in the sport.
